Currently under construction in Toronto, the Light Rail Transit is taking shape. This underground LRT project is 19.7 kilometers in length directly underneath arguably the busiest street in Toronto – Eglinton Avenue.

The Challenge

With more than 35 years experience, WJ Groundwater Canada is responsible for the dewatering process throughout the tunnel. The tunnel is being constructed utilizing the New Austrian Tunneling Method, also known as sequential excavation method. Dewatering is extremely crucial to this excavation type.

The Solution

Equally as crucial is the monitoring process for groundwater and dewatering operations. Smartrek’s sensing devices and proprietary LPWAN protocol, SpiderMesh, provide connectivity through the Spidermesh network. An array of sensors are currently deployed, all part of Smartreks “Plug n Play” design. Currently dispatched are our Temperature, Water level, and flow monitoring devices.

WJ groundwater is able to monitor in real-time all the sensors deployed throughout the LRT project. Collecting data and established alarms ensure an effective reliable dewatering operation for WJ Groundwater.
